13 year old behind the wheel of a deadly crash
A 13-year-old boy drove the pickup truck involved in a fiery head-on collision due to a faulty tire in Texas that killed nine people, including six University of the Southwest golfers and their coach at the end of March.
Information indicates that the left front tire of the pickup was a spare that failed, causing the vehicle to pull hard to the left into the oncoming traffic of a two-lane roadway. Both vehicles were most likely moving close to the speed limit of 75 mph.
In Texas, a minor can begin the classroom part of a driver education course at 14 but however, they must be at least 15 to apply for a learner license, according to the public safety department website.
The two students that survived are now hospitalized. The students are slowly recovering and making steady progress, University of the Southwest Provost Ryan Tipton said Thursday. Tipton stated that the students are recovering every day, and there is no indication of how long it will take for them to fully recover but they are both stable and making progress each and every day.
