Fantasy basketball recap

As the 2021-22 NBA season hits its home stretch, fantasy basketball leagues will be wrapping up their 5 ½  month regular season in the next few weeks. Looking back on the season there are many surprises and disappointments.

There are a couple of players that stand above the rest in disappointments, not producing helpful numbers for their fantasy managers despite being taken very high in the draft. The first player on the list being Michael Porter, Jr.

Porter was highly praised coming into this season based on his performances in both the regular season and playoffs the year prior.

Connor Eischens made the decision to trade Karl Anthony Towns, and Ricky Rubio for Clint Capela, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Michael Porter Jr. The players Connor received were mediocre at best, and Porter was even worse.

When asked what his intentions were Connor said, “I expected a solid 50 fantasy points per game kind of dude.  He didn’t even play a game because he got hurt.”

Connor gave up Karl Anthony Towns who is one of the top big men in the league averaging 57 fantasy points per game.

Next we can look at one of the steals from the draft. Ja Morant was drafted in the middle of the 6th round and has proven himself to be one of the best fantasy producing guards this season.

I asked fantasy manager Zach Mathiasen what Morant’s importance has been this season, he said, “He’s obviously a very vital part of the team averaging 61 fantasy points per game. We wouldn’t be where we are without him.”

Zach, whose team started the season 1-6, has hit a hot streak and climbed into first place with a record of 12-6 and a favorite to win it all.

Nolan Houghton has been at the top of the league for the last two seasons. The reigning champ is in first place once again with a 14-4 record, averaging about 1800 points per week.

When asked how he has been able to put together two very successful seasons he said, “Lots of research, lots of negotiating with trades, and countless clutch pickups.”

As the season winds down, it will be interesting to see if anybody will be able to dethrone the champ during playoffs.

Looking at the bottom of the league, fantasy basketball rookie Lucas Greenlun has been at the bottom of the league all season. Lucas is tied for last place with a 6-12 record, averaging about 1,500 points per week.

When asked about his chances of making the playoffs he said, “I hope and pray that my team can go off these next three weeks.”

With a slim chance of making the playoffs, there is still hope for Lucas but he’ll need some luck in the coming weeks.
