With the end of the year approaching, our students from the 2024 graduating class will be parting from SHS very soon. LeSabre wants to spotlight as many seniors as possible before they leave. Today’s senior is Connor Lyon.

Connor Lyon is a student of the 2024 Graduating class. He has gone to Sartell his whole life, starting at Pine Meadow Elementary. From ages 6 to 13 Connor swam on the Sartell youth swim team. Shortly after, he started racing BMX. Connor raced for five years and won two state championships, first place at nationals five times, and got third place at grands.

This year, Connors schooling has been a little different than previous years. Connor enrolled in a program at Apollo High School, where he spends the first two hours of his day working and learning about cars. Connor is focused on making it to August, when he will leave to attend an automotive schooling program in Georgia. Lanier Technical College offers a two year program that will give Connor a degree in motorsports technology, which he hopes he can use to become a performance technician.

Connor has a few hobbies that all revolve around the same activity. Working on cars is a focal point in Connor’s life. He has a job at the St. Cloud Quick lube completing oil changes, tire services, and the occasional bigger job like pulling an engine or transmission. When Connor is not at work, he is usually helping his friends with their cars, or in his garage working on his 2015 VolksWagen GTI 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder. So far, he has put coil overs, new wheels, and a turbo- back exhaust setup with a muffler delete in his car. His GTI is tuned, with ignition coils, and a turbo inlet.

Connor’s family and friends had many amazing things to say about him. I found that the most common theme is his humor. Everyone I spoke to told me that Connor’s comedic energy lights up the room in a way others can’t.
