The Presidential Barbecue: Hillary Clinton

Sweet and Sour Hillary with Rice and Vegetables

Today’s recipe is considered by some to be the most delicious to grace the Democratic side of the barbecue, and by others to be the most offensive meal imaginable. Why is there such a discrepancy? It may be because this Illinois dish can be abrasive and harsh if rushed, but sweet and savory if properly prepared. According to the Washington Post, Clinton has offended and alienated scores of food critics with her burning remarks about veterans, not to mention using private e-mail servers to spread government recipes. Yet her strong tastes still appeal to a large number of Americans.

Clinton tends to be a fairly strong left wing dish, more radical than most of her party. In fact, her stance on a majority of controversial issues, from abortion to crime punishment, mirrors the views of Sanders Wings, her closest rival in the polls. According to insidegov.com, the key place where Clinton and Sanders differ is foreign policy, where Clinton tends to be much more conservative. This means that she tends to support US involvement outside of the country and into other patios, where other countries are having barbecues of their own.

Regardless of Clinton and Sanders’ similarities, their campaigns have gotten more aggressive already, presumably so the candidates can create factions of loyal supporters that will side with their favorite meals again and again. For Clinton’s part, she has accused Sanders of sexism, and it seems to be working in her favor. But she’ll have to be careful. By attacking Sanders, she also invites criticism of her own activities. Already simmering in the Benghazi scandal, Clinton can’t afford any more large-scale roasts, or her goose is cooked.

Despite all of her mistakes, Clinton is still leading Sanders in preliminary polls. If she continues to perform as she has been, she has a reasonable shot at success in the Presidential Barbecue. But Clinton burns easily, and may still make a mistake late in the game.
