The Presidential Barbecue: Jeb Bush

Spicy Jeb With Campaign Difficulties and Red Bell Peppers

Today’s recipe is a Texas classic. As early as 1989, Bush was being served to the American people. The Bush  family of recipes have had great success in the past, and Jeb was expected to be no different. However, despite his usual mass appeal, Jeb Bush is quickly becoming the chicken of the presidential barbecue.

When Jeb started cooking at the beginning of the campaign, it seemed as though his bid for the top spot in the barbecue was a strong one. He had qualities that his entire party could get behind, a strong flavor reminiscent of early 21st century politics, a history of leadership (as main dishes and entrees), and of course a multicultural spice that appealed to Latin American voters. But lately, according to Politico magazine, Jeb’s popularity is declining. His taste isn’t sitting well with his supporters any more. Not only is it because the party now leans toward more exotic, right wing foods, but also because they’re tired of Bush. They’ve been served Bush three meals a day for years, and frankly, they’re sick of it.

Jeb’s failure to distinguish himself from the family of Bush recipes may be his undoing. Campaigners for Jeb’s spot in the Barbecue may soon hear from voters: “Jeb? Oh yeah. I’ve tried it. Tastes like Bush.” But this hasn’t stopped Bush from proceeding with his campaign and sticking to his guns. In fact, it may have even pushed him on the offensive. Just this Monday, the grand chefs at CNN reported on a banquet held for campaign donors where Bush was the only dish served. And during the meal, things got heated. Other candidates for the Republican nomination were thoroughly roasted, not the least of which was the American classic: Trump Ribs. By consolidating support for his campaign and proving to competitors that he won’t give up without a fight, the banquet has reignited the roaring ovens and grills of the Bush kitchens. Will this be enough to push Jeb ahead in the hearts and palates of Americans? Only time will tell.
