Sartell Unified Club: what it offers, what it’s about, why you should join

In this article, I will be giving you more insight on Sartell Unified Club. The friendships made, the positive atmosphere, and of course the fun activities you could be a part of!

Last year, Sartell High School began to offer a unique class experience for students called Unified P.E. which is a gym class.  That class was such a hit, that it also turned into a club called Unified Club.

Mrs. Emily Stoebe is a creator of the club. She is a special education teacher at Sartell High School Mrs. Stoebe. She excitedly offered insight into what Unified Club offers.

Unified Club offers activities for students to spend time together outside of school doing activities like going to sporting events or a pizza party. We are going to Airmax in December. So it’s just an opportunity for students who receive special ed services to spend their time with their mainstream peers.

— Mrs. Stoebe on what the Unified club offers?

The club meets about once a month. Sometimes it’s after school for a few hours, sometimes it’s during the school day during Sabre Time.  The club also sometimes spends time together out in the community like when they went to Mr. Twisty’s last summer in June.  When the club meets at school, it’s in T100 which is Mrs. Stoebe’s room but the gym teacher, Mr. Sailor, is also usually there since he teaches the Unified P.E. class.

Stoebe explains, “Mr. Sailor and I have activities down in T100 where students can come and play games, color, put together puzzles, listen to music. So you can actually sign up for Unified Sabre Time even if you’re not in the class or the club!”

We wanted to give more students the opportunity to spend time with their peers outside of school. A Lot of our students don’t have that opportunity due to transportation, or just lack of friendships or things like that. We thought it would be fun to have planned activities for our students to spend time with their peers.”

— Stoebe on why she started the Unified Club?

Stoebe would go on to say that they wanted to give more students the opportunity to spend time with their peers outside of school. A Lot of our students don’t have that opportunity due to transportation, or just lack of friendships or things like that. they also  thought it would be fun to have planned activities for our students to spend time with their peers.

In this article I wanted to give you two different pov’s from the creator of the club and a member. I interviewed Breanna Kurowski because she is a current member of the Sartell Unified Club. She is a Senior here at Sartell High school and here is her responses to a list of questions I asked her.

Breanna Kurowski – Senior, Softball Captain

I joined this club because I already knew some of the students from unified PE and I really enjoy hanging out with them, getting out into the community, and connecting with other people.”

“What do you think would be some fun activities to do in Unified Club?”- Kayla
“So far we have already done one, Mr. Twisty’s last summer just to kinda test it out and see how it went. This year I could see us getting together and going on some field trips in the community and doing some art’s and craft’s.”- Breanna

Coming up on November 16th from 6:00-7:15pm at T101, we are going to be getting together for some pizza, games, and more! It’s going to be very fun.”

— Breanna Kurowski on what date you will meet up for Unified Club and what will you be doing?
