The Sartell Volleyball team has recently been on fire due to their impressive group of seniors.

The Sartell Volleyball team has risen to an 11-3 record through the first fourteen games of their season. They are led by a senior heavy group headlined by Ellie Rengel and libero Avery Templin. Templin leads the team, and class AAA in digs. She has 263 total, and over five digs per set.  Rengel herself is second in the team in kills with 112 and averages over two and a half per set.

Ellie is one of the only players in Class AAA to be top forty-five in total kills and digs. When asked about how she’s adjusted to playing all around this year, she gave a lot of credit to Avery Templin. “Yeah, this is my first year playing all around. I just started playing all around during the travel season and Avery has been a huge help for me making the switch.  Whenever I’m not in the right spot she always tells me where I need to be.”

The team also has some juniors who have risen as major impact players. Abby Haus has been consistently their best hitter leading the team in total kills and kills per set. Grace Schulte has also emerged as an elite setter for the team with 241 total assists. Grace is also second on the team in aces through the first fourteen games. Another impact player in the junior class has been Brenna McClure. Brenna is third on the team in kills and leads the team in aces. Brenna and Abby also rank fifth and sixth in class AAA in blocks.

The Sabers currently sit in second place in the Central Lakes Conference, behind Willmar. The Sabres traveled to Willmar on September 27th,  but fell in three sets.

Rengel said on Thursday that she felt good about the team’s morale after the loss. “We took it as a learning moment, because it felt like our section loss to Bemidji last year,” said Rengel.

Last year the team fell in the first round, in a home playoff game, that they were heavily favored. The team has much higher aspirations this year, and are on a consistent pace to meet them.
