This article is dedicated to my mom, and I wish to thank her for everything.
One of the most awaited days for every student is graduation. There’s only a couple of days until I am officially done with high school, and only three more months until I pack up my life and move a state away. It’s such an exciting chapter in my life. But I can’t ignore the person I’m leaving behind, who has been there every step of the way, my mother.
My mom has never failed me and has been at my side constantly throughout the years. Whether that be proofreading my papers for school, lending an extra hand with my arts and crafts throughout the years, and most recently, with college applications. Even if she had no clue how to do it, no matter what, she is always willing to help me. My mom would take the shirt off her back for me, and truly, that is the best feeling ever. Growing up with someone who cares so much about you is a huge blessing that sometimes gets taken for granted.
I actually take a lot of things for granted. As children, we do not express our gratitude or love enough until it’s too late. I now have only three months left to live with my parents, and it feels too late to express how thankful I am that they have done practically anything and everything for me.
This isn’t supposed to be a sob letter. But it’s me trying to thank her for everything. The roof over my head, the countless meals she has made me, a car, and most importantly, for being my mother. My mom once told me that the best thing that has ever happened in her life is being a mom. I never fully wrapped my head around that statement until now. It’s a simple statement, but it says everything about the role she has played in my life.
As excited as I am for moving forward in my life, I am empty that I’m leaving you. But it isn’t a goodbye, it’s just a see you later. Graduating and moving out may mark the beginning of my independence, but I will never forget who guided me throughout this journey.
Mom, thank you for everything. I love you forever.
