Sartell Boys’ Basketball creates history

The boys basketball is advancing to state, and playing next week!

Thursday, March 12th, 2026, the boys’ basketball team was head-on with Fergus Falls for the Section 8AAA championship, with a ticket to state on the line. During the boys’ regular season, they had previously lost and won a game against Fergus. With everything on the line, anything was possible. They were ready to leave everything on the court and get the chip.

The first half of the game was off to an intense start. The pressure was definitely settled, but that was not stopping the Sabres. Sartell was still in the lead during the half with a score of 28-20. With only an 8-point differential, anticipation was high. That didn’t stop the fans’ excitement; the crowd was electric.

In the second half, the Sabres dominated the Otters, winning 72-48. This was a moment that the 2025-2026 boys team will never forget. The atmosphere was truly unforgettable, and I was glad to witness history. The last time the Sabres won the section championship was in 2013. Making it 13 years since the boys walked away with a section championship victory.

Player Bennett Bombersbach received Star of the Week and was recognized for his contribution to the team. He had been out for 7 months due to an ACL injury. He returned to the lineup in early February. Since his return, he has helped the Sabres to a 9-0 record.

The Sartell activities office awards outstanding athletes with Star of the Week every sports season.

Other outstanding players were Junior Trevor Schlangen and Senior Brady Thompson. They brought it all and had exceptional defense. They shut down Fergus and forced turnovers.

The Sabres will advance to the state tournament and play at the Williams Arena. Tune into the game next week and cheer for the Sabres!
