Residents in Need
According to BBC, the city of Townsville, which has a population of 198,143 was hit by devastating floods in 2019 and was labeled as a “one-in-a-hundred-year event”. It is said that the current flooding matches the same event that happened in 2019. This is also the third time in the past six years that Townsville has been hit by record-breaking floods. Rescue efforts have been halted after the collapse of a bridge along the Bruce Highway, a major road that is a staple way from getting south to far north of the state.

Intense rainfall events are getting more intense and more frequent as the world warms due to the pollution from fossil fuels and the consequences of the climate crisis. thankfully relief for the residents is in sight because rainfall is expected to calm down within a few days but residents in some areas have been warned to expect more heavy rainfall and flooding. The intense rains have flooded many rivers throughout the coast and authorities have been forced to release floodwater on spillways on the Ross River Damn to release the pressure on the damn.
