The Sartell Theatre department received an honor Outstanding Achievement in Musical Theatre through the Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Spotlight Education for their production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods. Along with dozens of other schools who received honors, Sartell will be showcasing one of their songs and performing as a cast and crew one final time on June 11th at the State Theatre.
The Spotlight Showcase will host around 100 schools across two days of performances.
In order to have the possibility of getting honors like these, qualifying schools elect to participate in production assessments. These assessments involve three separate evaluators that attend three of the four musical performances a school holds. These evaluators remain anonymous during the show.
During the Showcase, outstanding individual and group performances from the various high schools will be featured. Awards are given in categories including acting, singing, dancing, and technical achievement. The Showcase not only celebrates the talents of young performers but also provides them with valuable feedback and learning opportunities from industry experts.
