Arthur the King is a wounded dog who follows a man and his team while they are on a challenging race through the Dominican Republic. Desperate for one last chance to win a race, Michael Light leads a team to the finish line, while befriending a stray dog who shows him what friendship truly means. The true story about Mikael Lindnord and a stray dog, Arthur, is a movie that will melt your heart!
Actors:
This movie stars famous actor Mark Wahlberg, who plays the role as Mikael Lindnord, very well. Wahlberg’s acting is so good that I forgot that I was even watching a movie. I could feel the range of emotions that he felt throughout the plot, which made it feel even more real. Mikael Lindnord had so many ups and downs with challenges that it kept me engaged the whole time. Another actor in the movie was Simu Liu who has played roles in popular movies such as Barbie and Avengers. Liu’s character, Liam, adds to the plot as an obstacle when him and Mikael tend to butt heads throughout the movie. Their arguments added an intense feeling and it was an interesting twist. Other members of the cast included Nathalie Emmanuel, Bear Grylls, Juliet Rylance, Ali Suliman, and many others.
Directing:
The director of the movie was Simon Cellan Jones who has directed other movies such as The Family Plan, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking, and many more. The filming style made it look like I was there running the race with them and sometimes the camera would shake as they were running or if there was a lot of motion going on.
Criticism:
I don’t have many bad things to say about this movie, but it was a little confusing if they were trying to focus this movie on a dog or a race. Priority wise, it felt like the movie was more focused on the race than the dog. I would’ve enjoyed more of a storyline with the dog because the movie shines little light on Arthur’s background and his future.
Overall, I would rate this movie a 8/10! Although the scenes in the movie aren’t real, the story definitely is. If you want to hear about the real story between Arthur and the man that saved him you can read the book or watch the ESPN documentary. I would highly recommend this movie to people who love dogs, love adventure, and who want to watch a cute, simple movie.
