Metro Boomin’s ‘Heroes & Villains’ is not for the faint of heart
Metro Boomin dropped a new album two weeks ago called Heroes & Villains, and it looks like it has the makes to be one of the best of the year.
With features from John Legend, Future, Chris Brown, Don Toliver, Travis Scott and countless other well-renowned artists, they hyupe this album has received is no surprise. With this also being Metro’s first full release since 2018. Metro’s album contains 15 songs, 13 of them with features from award winning artists. The album is 48 minutes and 4 seconds long, and I will be listening to each song and leaving my official reviews attached to this article.
The album opens up with a strong song in “On Time” with a feature from John Legend. A very upbeat song and a very good mix of John’s type of music and Metro’s beat and lyrics. I give this song a 6.8/10 with the possibility of growing on me up to a 8/10.
The second song in the album “Superhero” with Future and Chris Brown is a very good song that has the perfect combination of all three of their styles. Future has a very good verse, but Chris Brown could have been a lot better on his part. Overall a 7.6 /10 with a chance of moving into the 8.5/10 with enough time.
The third and one of my personal favorites is “Too Many Nights” with Future and Don Toliver. It’s a very upbeat and exciting song. It has good bass and a good beat with a lot of solid Don Toliver lyrics which gives it a very good blend of the two artists. I would give the song a 8/10 and definitely a chance of growing to an 8.7/10.
The fourth song is “Raindrops.” I’m not a big fan. There’s not much more to say about this song. It has Travis Scott as a featured artist and still manages to be a miss. I give it a 5.1/10.
The fifth song in his album is my personal favorite “Umbrella.” The features on this song include 21 Savage and Young Nudy. This is one of the most put-together songs in my opinion and is the best all-around song in terms of hitting all types of genres and the different types of beats and flows. It follows a traditional Metro Flow but adds the perfect amount of 21 and mixes in Young Nudy in the perfect doses. Overall this is a 8.3/10 with one of the best chances at making the advancements into the prestigious 9/10 club.
The sixth song on the album is “Trance” with Travis Scott and Young Thug. It is slightly above average but not a song I am willing to listen to constantly. It’s pretty repetitive and could use more Young Thug in it in order to take the next step. I give it a 6.4/10.
“Around Me” is the seventh song on this album with a feature from Don Toliver. This one is a instant classic. It’s a very traditional Don Toliver beat with a very good Metro twist on the back end of the song. All of that put together would earn the song a 7.2/10.
“Metro Spider.” with a feature from Gunna is definitely a skip, one of the few skips on the playlist but this song just doesn’t do it for me. I think that it will always be a skip. It’s hard to see two such good artists turn out a piece like this but it’s very poor. 3.2/10
“I Can’t Save You” is another skip for me. It’s just too much of an intro to be classified as a song, but I think that’s the point of it
“Creeping” This is a 9.3/10 for me. It’s the holy grail of music right here…a perfect mix of all artists and the beat and the way everything meshes together earns this song the highest rating out of the whole album. It will be a very tough song to beat in terms of all-around performance.
I am leaving the final five songs off due to excessive words that Mrs. Nelson would not approve of.
