In late December, President Putin said that he believes that Russia is not to blame for the Ukrainian war.

During a televised meeting with government officials, Putin said he still sees Ukraine as a “Brotherly Nation.” President Putin also puts blame on the West saying they are brainwashing post-Soviet republics like Ukraine for example.

Putin also claims that “For years, we tried to build good-neighborly relations with Ukraine, offering loans and cheap energy, but it did not work.”  He says what is happening now is a tragedy, but it is not Russia’s fault.

Military officials during this meeting vowed to continue their special operations in Ukraine into the next year. Currently, Russia has a law mandating 18-27 year old men into military service.
