The Minnesota Vikings pulled off the biggest comeback in NFL history on Saturday, December 17. They played against the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Colts were 4-8-1 and the Vikings were 10-3. Colts scored the first touchdown of the game and scored 17 total in the first quarter.

Watching the first half was very disappointing for Vikings fans. The Colts then scored 16 in the 2nd quarter. Colts were up 33 to 0 against the Vikings. Vikings lost the week before which was disappointing, so fans were hoping they would up their game, but the Colts had other plans.

On ESPN, Patrick Peterson walked into the Minnesota Viking’s locker room at halftime on Saturday and fired off one of the most absurd challenges in NFL history: “We need five touchdowns to win this game.”

The Vikings trailed 33-0. Some players weren’t sure if Peterson was serious or speaking with gallows humor. In this century, after all, NFL teams have scored five touchdowns after halftime in roughly three out of every 1,000 games. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell, however, overheard him and said he was moved.

Coming back from halftime, Vikings fans were not happy with the team’s performance in the first half but still had hope.  Colts kept their halftime lead by returning a blocked punt and an interception for touchdowns. The Vikings then put up 14 points in the 3rd quarter, while Colts only got 3. The score was then 36 to 14.

4th quarter brought so many crazy plays. Vikings scored 22 points, including a huge touchdown by Dalvin Cook and two-point conversion from TJ Hockenson to tie the game and force overtime.

The Vikings won the coin toss and had a few good plays but no points. Colts then got the ball at the 10 after a punt from the Vikings and scored no points. Vikings got the ball back and ended up in field goal range and Greg Joseph made it!

The Vikings won 39-36 with the greatest comeback in NFL history and win the NFC North.
