Some insight for ASU
This past October I had the opportunity to tour the Arizona State University campus in Tempe Arizona. I have gathered some information from my tour to give another perspective on campus life for upcoming college freshmen.
ASU History: In 1886 the Territorial Normal School became Arizona’s first higher education institution with 33 students and a four-classroom building in Tempe. 30 years later, ASU was granted statehood. It is now home to over 140,000 students and has earned the reputation of the most innovative university in the country for 6 years in a row.
ASU Locations: ASU is known as “one university in many places” due to its 5 separate campuses that are located throughout Phoenix. Their separate campuses offer students a choice of location based on their preferences. Their locations include Downtown Phoenix, Polytechnic, Tempe, West, and Lake Havasu.
ASU Education: There are over 400 undergraduate degree programs and 450 graduate degree programs at ASU. These programs offer specialized programming and advising research opportunities that prepare students for the next stage of their life. ASU is top in academic reputation, #1 in the nation, and #2 in the world for global impact in research. ASU also has an 18-1 student-to-faculty ratio.
Residential life: The residential for freshmen students at ASU offers 40 different housing choices based on your major and the location of campus you are on. There is a variety of many different types of rooms like suite-style rooms or basic dorm rooms.
Sartell Alum Review of ASU: Jewelz Reed is a ‘22 Sartell graduate who has begun her first year at ASU. She currently lives on the Tempe campus and has shared some information about her life so far at ASU.
Q: What’s your favorite part about college so far?
A: My favorite part so far is getting to meet all new people and getting to experience new things.
Q: What do you like the most about the ASU campus?
A: I love the nature on campus, the amount of inclusiveness you feel just walking the campus, and the amount of people you see.
Q: Is your college experience different from what you expected?
A: My college experience is way different than I expected.
Q: If you could give advice to the seniors entering college next year what advice would you give them?
A: My advice would be to take college algebra your senior year and to go out of state for school, go meet some new people.
