Shanquella Robinson was found dead last month in a vacation rental property in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico

Shanquella Robinson was found dead in a vacation rental property in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.

Shanquella Robinson 25, traveled to Mexico with her college friends from Winston Salem State University for a vacation her father Bernard Robinson told CNN.

Shanquella last spoke to her mother on the phone on the morning of Friday, October 28. The following day, she was found dead in the rental, US and Mexican authorities said.

CNN obtained her death certificate,  which lists the cause of her death as severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation. The document states she was found unconscious in the living room of the rental residence on October 29.  New York Post said that her friends said she died from alcohol poisoning.

You put a big hole in my heart. The only thing I can do is fight for her; I cannot let her die in vain.

The death certificate classified her death as “accidental or violent” noting that the approximate time between injury and death was 15 minutes.  Her death is now being investigated as femicide: a form of gender-based violence that is seen as a hate crime internationally.

Charlotte Observer obtained a police report that says a doctor was called to the vacation home to treat Robinson, who was apparently inebriated and unable to communicate, although her vital signs were initially stable. The report also said that her friends resisted the doctor’s suggestion she be taken to a hospital. The doctor was unable to detect a pulse after Robinson had seizures.

Before this all happened, a video was leaked, and it showed Shanquella having a physical altercation with another person in the room. It is unknown when the video was taken or if the altercation was the cause of her injury. It is not sure what led them to start fighting or how many people were in the room at the time. Her father told TMZ that he believed the attack was a setup because she was not one to get involved in fights.

The FBI Charlotte Field Office confirmed to CNN in an email Friday that they have opened up an investigation into Shanquellas’s death. There have been charges and authorities have not released the names of her friends.

The FBI launched an official investigation into Robinson’s death. The state attorney general office also issued a warrant for another woman who is likely responsible for Robinson’s death.

You took my only jewel from me.
