The surprise come up of the Nate Hoops League

The Nate Hoops League is a mini hoop basketball league where it is played in Nathan Vosberg’s backyard. The league is played on an 8 foot, 8 inch hoop with a best-of-three game series each going to 25 points. The players in the league consist of current/former basketball players trying to win games to make the playoffs and hopefully win the championship, but also to create highlights to post to social media. It is very entertaining to watch.

Nathan Vosberg is the face of the league because the league games are also being played at his house. He can also be credited for founding the league. It all started with tik tok. Vosberg and some of our friends saw how much fun people were having playing mini -hoop and some people on tik tok even created a league. The idea didn’t fully come to life until we saw the BGFL, a flag football league in Sartell succeed. After Vosberg saw that, he knew he could do it with the help of Logan Legatt who got a bunch of people to join.

Vosberg explains his thought process as the league was being created “It was just an idea that came to life. I thought it was just going to be one of those things we said we would do but we actually did it.”

The first season was just played in the summer of 2021 and the second season is just around the corner which is set to start in May or June. There were four teams that played last season.

There are a lot of talented people in the league, but I have two to highlight. One of them is the best scorer in the whole league, Andrew Rogers. Andrew was a bucket last season. He was the number one overall pick in the draft, and he did not disappoint. He totaled over 65% of his team’s points. He also put up a record-breaking 63 points in a loss to the D.C. ducks.

Vosberg on Andrew dropping 63 on one of the teams, “It was unfortunate that he went off versus my team, but I am just lucky that we got the dub.”

Another talented hooper was Anthony Mahowald. Anthony or “Tone” for short was nothing short but dominant this season. With his high vertical, he can dunk on anyone in his path. He led his team to the number one seed but had to forfeit in the playoffs due to load management. This upcoming season should be a highlight reel for Tone with hopes of winning it all.

Vosberg had this to say about Mahowald, “I’m glad he is on my team.”
