There has recently been a death in a building at Emory University. The building was known as Hawkins Lab in the Netflix show Stranger Things. The abandoned hospital, built in the 1960s, is now closed to the public. The police identified the victim as 19-year-old Leah Palmirotto, claiming that she was looking around the abandoned building and must have fallen through the roof, but the real cause of death is still under investigation. 

The university has spoken out and said that in 2022, it was supposed to be demolished and turned into a senior living facility, and has been vacant since early 2024. They also said that the building is completely fenced off and in the demolition process. 

This tragedy gained a lot of attention due to the building’s popularity stemming from its appearance in Stranger Things and the use of its underground tunnels for the show. Based on the show’s popularity, a lot of people tend to want to explore this building, but this just shows how unsafe it is.
