FINALE!!!

After the 10 long weeks that our 5 finalists have gone through, it’s finally time to discuss their journey and the showstopping finale performances. Each finalist had to do a judges’ choice, freestyle, and an instant dance. The judge’s choice means that each couple is assigned a judge, and that judge will select the style of their dance. A freestyle means that everything is legal to use, and the instant dance is that the couples will pick a style and song randomly, and have less than 5 minutes to pick an outfit and learn their dance.

For the judges’ choice round, Judge Derek Hough was assigned to pick dances for Robert and Elaine, while Judge Carrie Ann Inaba was assigned to Alix and Jordan, and Judge Bruno Tonioli was assigned to only Dylan. Robert got a quickstep, Alix got a samba, Jordan got a paso doble, Elaine got a rumba, and Dylan got a paso doble. Robert earned a 29/30, Alix earned a 30/30, Jordan earned a 29/30, Dylan earned a 28/30, and Elaine earned a 30/30. These dances were all so fun to watch, especially Dylan because he incorporated a move that Bruno did in a music video years ago.

The instant dance round was next, and let’s just say it was a struggle for each couple. Mess-ups were bound to happen, some more noticeable than others. The first couple to go was Alix and Val. Earlier in the week, Alix picked a dance style blindfolded, and she chose Cha-Cha. The producers chose the song they danced to, and they ended up dancing to “Where Is My Husband?” This dance earned them a perfect score of 30/30. Dylan and Daniella went next, getting a foxtrot and their dance style, and danced to the song “Ordinary,” earning another perfect score of 30/30. Elaine was next, where she chose a quickstep and was assigned the song “You Can’t Hurry Love,” earning the lowest score out of everyone, 27/30. Robert was the next couple to go, and his dance was a Cha-Cha to the song “Cake By The Ocean,” earning a perfect score of 30/30, but he did have some visible mess-ups. Jordan was the last to go in the instant dance round, and she got to do a tango to the song “I Like It,” getting the last perfect score of this round, 30/30.

The last dance section of the night was the freestyles. This is where the dancers can express themselves and also where everything in the dance is allowed, even things like illegal lifts. Alix and Val went first, and in their freestyle, Alix wanted it to represent her but also show a different size of her. She danced to a mashup of the songs “Sports Car” and “Maneater,” earning a 30/30. Dylan was up next, and wow, was his freestyle a tear-jerker. He danced to “Something in the Heavens,” earning a well-deserved 30/30. Next up was Elaine. Her freestyle was more acting-based based but still fun. She danced to “I Hope I Get It,” earning a 30/30. Robert was next, and he danced to a mash-up of “Black and Gold” and “The Nights,” earning himself a perfect score of 30/30. Jordan finished the round and danced to the mashup of songs “Bow Down (Homecoming Live)” and “Motivation,” earning 30/30, the last perfect score of the night.

The last part of the night was the awards and finding out the placements. Everyone’s hearts were racing. Some of the people have never danced before, and others it’s all they’ve ever done. When they started announcing the placements, they added long pauses for a more nerve-wracking experience. 5th place went to Elaine and Alan, 4th to Dylan and Daniella, and 3rd to Jordan and Ezra. The placement for 1st and 2nd was such a close match, just points away from each other, but 2nd place went to Alix and Val. Robert and Witney are the new DWTS season 34 winners, and it was so fun to see their reactions. This win meant that the Irwin family now has 2 mirrorball trophies, and so does Witney! This season has broken the record for many things, including the votes. In the finale alone, DWTS got 72 million votes, but the season overall earned 500 million. This was one of the most memorable finales yet!
