Hawaii wildfires have been going on for a couple of years. The tragic and devastating infernos have obliterated many historical buildings, houses, and tourist attractions.
As of January 7th, 2025 the fires are still besieging their way through the big island ruining almost everything in sight. Located on the Big Island, at around 8 pm at night, the Honolulu police and firefighter crew responded to a call. they responded to a two story residential building located near a busy intersection.
After only 18 minutes of trying to attempt to get the fire out and helping everyone escape the quickly burning building, a “mayday” call was issued after two firefighters were declare missing in the rubble and ashy remains. One was able to make it out, but before they could search for the other missing firefighter a part of the roof collapsed causing the scene to be filled with ash and smoke.
After a long 24 minutes of searching for the last missing firefighter, they found him and took everyone to the hospital. One firefighter was left in critical condition, along with four other firefighters and one civilians being left in extreme critical condition. It was found out later that the fire was sparked from someone who appeared to be cooking. Witnesses described how quickly the flames took over the building and how fast it spread.
The wildfires were attributes from the gusty, dry, and high pressure area where Hawaii is located. Two years ago in 2023, Maui was the main island under attack from the fast moving fires. Those fires started due to a broken down power line that caught on fire and proceeded to pass throughout the island.
While on it’s journey throughout Maui, it burned most of the community of Lahaina. It burned buildings, houses, and countless structures to the ground. Along with the broken down power line starting the fires, people have said cooking and illegal fireworks have led to some of the wildfires. 102 deaths have been confirmed from this wildfire along with hundreds being unaccounted for.
