An overwhelming and pressing question that has continued into the new year of 2025, is whether TikTok will be banned this month. The rumors of TikTok being banned have left small business owners and content creators in an anxious state of mind. The fate of TikTok will be decided by the Supreme Court as they consider the many laws and fears of having a Chinese-based parent company able to see the personal information of users who enjoy the app.
As for content creators, the fear of TikTok being banned has haunted them since President-elect Donald Trump’s first term.
Although he could not ban the popular app in his first term, after his inauguration to become the 47th President of the United States later this month, he has reconsidered the banning of TikTok. Through a press conference, he has been saying he “opposes banning TikTok” and intends to resolve the issues “through political means once he takes office.“
However, people are unsure if Trump is able to stop the TikTok ban. Trump’s meeting with TikTok boss Shou Zi Chew has raised hopes of content creators and viewers that Trump is trying to intervene with the ban. If TikTok does end up becoming banned, content creators are at a high risk of losing their primary means of reaching an audience and earning an income.
Many creators have taken to TikTok to express their frustration with the possible banning of TikTok. The uncertainty of the future of the app has made content creators question if they should keep uploading videos. According to some creators, many have thought about stopping all content creation or even quitting.
It’s unclear how quickly the Supreme Court will come to a final decision, but as January 19th quickly creeps around the corner, time will only tell.
