More than 14 innocent people were killed during an attack on New Year’s Day on
Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
- Late New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day, there was a party on Bourbon Street when a driver slammed into a crowd in what is being identified as a terrorist attack. Thirty five people were injured in the incident and some were in critical condition and more than fourteen people were killed with two police officers hit by gunfire and treated at a hospital.
- The attacker’s name is Shamsud-Din Jabbar, he is 42 and was reportedly an Army veteran and resident of Houston, Texas. He was driving around barricades and up onto the sidewalk of Bourbon Street. He died after exchanging gunfire with three responding officers, therefore, many people and officers said that this has to be a terrorist attack.
- Anna Kirkpatrick, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent said, “We had a car there, we had barriers there, we had officers there, he still got around and was trying to run over as many people as he could.”

- Nicole Perez, 27, of Metairie, Louisiana
- Brandon Taylor, 43, of Harvey, Louisiana
- Matthew Tenedorio, 25, of Picayune, Mississippi
- Elliot Wilkinson, 40, of Slidell, Louisiana
