On the morning of New Year’s Day, 15 people were killed and dozens more sustained injuries by a former US military veteran plowing through a crowd on Bourbon Street New Orleans in a pickup truck.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Army veteran from Texas, has been identified as the suspect who committed this act of terrorism on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The FBI confirmed 15 dead by vehicular homicide with many more hospitalized. Jabbar was later killed in a gunfight with police after the crash.
It’s unclear what the reason for this massacre was, though it’s confirmed that Jabbar had an ISIS flag in the back of the vehicle. ISIS is considered a terrorist organization. Investigators believe that Shamsud-Din Jabbar was working alone.
Bourbon Street is known countrywide as a popular destinations for New Year’s Eve parties. Multiple crowds had gathered in the city ahead of the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl, which was postponed until Thursday after the attack.
Police said “Jabbar went around a police blockade and through a crowd around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday along Bourbon Street, where a large group of pedestrians had gathered to celebrate the Year of 2025. In addition to the many dead, 35 people were injured as well as two police officers were wounded in the shootout.”
No information or evidence supports the possibility of another attack or connection in any way to the other recent attacks involving vehicles, such as the explosion of a Tesla Cyber Truck in front of a Trump owned Las Vegas hotel.
