Innocent civilian killed after a police chase turned into deadly crash

On Saturday night December 9th, a police officer was doing a routine traffic stop on Interstate 94 at 11:15 p.m. The state trooper said the driver had initially stopped but then sped off.

The car was driving north on Interstate 35E for many miles. On a traffic camera, the driver is seen missing the Larpenteur exit and making a U-turn onto the entrance ramp driving the wrong way. The troopers then decided to end their pursuit and rely on helicopters to follow the driver.

The driver continued to drive away and eventually hit a parked car about a mile down the road from Larpenteur Avenue and Arcade Street.

The crash killed the person inside the parked car.

After the crash, the driver of the vehicle decided to flee the scene by foot and was later arrested by Ramsey County deputies. The driver was a 28-year-old man and is now being held at Ramsey County Jail.
