The Storm’n Sabres girls’ hockey team had an exciting game against the St. Cloud Crush on Tuesday, December 3rd.
This was a rivalry game for the Storm’n Sabres, so the entire team was excited to play. The game started at 7, right off the bat both teams were trying hard to get the first goal. It wasn’t until late into the 1st period that the Crush put one in. This didn’t affect the Storm’n Sabres at all as they kept playing their hardest. After the first period the score was 0-1 Crush. The second period started with both teams still working hard, this paid off for the Storm’n Sabres as they got a goal late in the second period with around 1 minute and 40 seconds left, it was scored by senior, Brayley Vandenberg.
This game was a youth night game so all the kids were having so much fun watching. They had light up foam sticks they waved in the air when their team scored to show their support. By the time the third period began, everyone was on the edge of their seats, waiting to see who would score next. Many fans showed up to watch the teams compete as it was a highly anticipated game. Watching the Crush and Storm’n Sabres compete each year is a fan favorite game. Many people always come and encourage their team. The supporters love to come and enjoy the game as it is always fun and intense.
Goalies for both teams were doing great, both making saves to keep their team in the game. Abby Massmann, goalie for the Storm’n Sabres, was having a fantastic game. There was 45 total shots on her that game, with her making 44 amazing saves only letting one by Every player was having a fantastic game, making it a thrilling game to watch, not knowing what was going to happen next, or who would score.
Both the Storm’n Sabres and the Crush were itching to get the next goal, but so far in the third period neither team was letting one past. Once there was a minute left in the game, the fans thought it was going to end in a 1-1 tie. The Storm’n Sabres thought otherwise. with 40 seconds left in the third period Brayley vandenberg got one in past the goalie to make it 2-1. The second the buzzer went of, signaling the end of the game, the Storm’n Sabres skated to each other to celebrate their win. They were so excited to beat The Crush, especially in such a dramatic game.
Needless to say, this was a highlight game and was very enjoyable to watch, the Storm’n Sabres have their next game away this Friday, December 13th, against Two Harbors at 7:00.
