The staff member that the LeSabre is featuring this week is Mr. Syvertson! Syvertson is a math teacher among different grade levels at Sartell. Syvertson has been teaching at Sartell for 23 years now, beginning his time as a Sabre in September of 2001. Before we got the pleasure of having Syvertson in our district, he taught in Paynesville MN, Pequot Lakes MN, and Kindred, North Dakota.
Syvertson’s journey to teaching wasn’t a direct path. He discovered teaching through swimming. He started as a lifeguard and eventually became a WSI: water safety instructor. Through this profession, he discovered his passion for teaching others.
Syvertson eventually decided he wanted to work within the schools, but was unsure which course he was going to focus on. He knew that he didn’t want to be a physical education teacher because, at the time, it was one of the most sought-after positions.
He thought back to his days of school in high school and college and recognized all of the kind of math teachers he had. Syvertson decided that he would take on the math teacher position. He also had come from three generations of teachers in his family, so this was his destiny!
Now we know a little bit of the history of how Syvertson came to be a math teacher, but what landed him at Sartell? When he was on the hunt for a teaching position, hundreds of other people could apply for the same position as you. When he applied for the teaching position at Sartell, and they offered him the job, he was more than happy to accept it. Over the years, Syvertson has grown to love the district, and is a lifelong Sabre!
Outside of teaching, Syvertson has a lot that he is involved with. He has a beautiful family made up of him, his wife, and his six children. Three of Syvertson’s children are married, have children, or are expecting in the future. Four of his children are out of the house now, and the other two are elementary age and live at home with Syvertson and his wife.
Thank you Mr.Syvertson for being a light in so many of the students of Sartell’s lives. Your hard work, dedication, and kindness do not go unnoticed. We greatly appreciate your contribution to the staff team here at Sartell. You are the best!
