During the holiday season, it often gets repetitive and mundane to hear the same couple of songs during the winter months. Although they are nostalgic classics, I have accumulated a couple of non-basic holiday songs to spice up your playlist. Without further ado, here are some new songs and covers to excite your winter season!

“Dónde Está Santa Clause?” by Augie Rios is such a fun song. Augie Rios is the little boy singing this catchy tune, and he brings such a child-like feel to this song. It reminds me of my childhood Christmases when it used to be so much more magical. This song reminds me of the winter season during dance team because upon my request, we would plank to this song and everyone would sing along.

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” covered by Phoebe Bridgers is such a beautiful rendition of the classic “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Hugh Martin. Phoebe’s voice is so angelic and adds such a sad tone to this song. I’ve always been super fond of Phoebe Bridgers voice, so her beautiful voice mixed with such nostalgic lyricism is such an amazing combo. I would absolutely love to listen to this song in my warm room while I watch big snowflakes fall slowly outside my window.

“Welcome Christmas” by Thurl Ravenscroft is a classic in my mind. It’s from the original animated “Grinch” movie, and it gives me such a nostalgic feel. My family and I typically watch The Grinch every Christmas season, so this brings back so many memories. This song is short and sweet and honestly one of my favorites.

“Flowers in December” is such a good song by Mazzy Stay. I’ve always loved Mazzy Star’s singing and lyricism. All of her songs give me such winter vibes, and it’s no surprise to me that I feel more willing to play her songs during the holiday season. Most of Mazzy Star’s songs, especially this one, remind me of long road trips with my family while it snows slowly outside. I love playing her songs while watching the snowflakes quickly pass by the window as we drive.

“All the King’s Horns” by Sufjan Stevens is such an iconic Christmas song. In my house during the Christmas season this whole album is on repeat. We have listened to Sufjan Stevens since I was little and have probably listened to his Christmas album ever since it came out. This song is my favorite on the album because of the quick pace that picks up in the middle. I love Sufjan’s voice and appreciate that he decided to create a Christmas playlist.

“I Am the Grinch” by Tyler, The Creator is a really fun holiday song. Since Tyler, The Creator is typically a rap artist, he puts a fun spin on this song. I believe this song is featured in the newly animated Grinch, and I really like his creativity with using his own style to tie it all into a holiday song.

“Angel In The Snow” by Elliott Smith is a pretty and calming song. I love Elliott Smith’s monotone voice, and it gives such a cozy cold feel.

“Snow Song” by Adrianne Lenker is a tranquil and beautiful song. I absolutely love Adrianne Lenker and all of her songs. The way she sings, writes lyrics, and combines everything together is so magical. This song is so calming, peaceful, and so cozy.

“Deck The Halls” covered by The Lumineers is a powerful piece that originated from “Deck The Halls” written by Thomas Oliphant. I’ve always liked The Lumineers’ lead singers voice because of how powerful and beautiful it is. I want to listen to this song while I’m cozied up with a blanket next to the fire.

“White Winter Hymnal” by Fleet Foxes is another classic in my head. It’s such a catchy song to sing or hum along to. This song reminds me of many memories. I am instantly reminded of setting up my Christmas tree with my family, and we all sing along. It gives such a cozy feel, and I absolutely love turning this song on during the holiday season.
