In May of 1997, Fleetwood Mac performed “Silver Springs” at Warner Bros; this live performance now has over 33 million views on YouTube and has gone viral on numerous social media platforms.
Lead singer, Stevie Nicks, first met her former band member, Lindsey Buckingham, during her senior year of high school. They became friends and bonded over their interest in music.
They started dating in the early 1970s, and they released an album together that ultimately flopped. This is when they started fighting. They did not have much money and Nicks was doing everything she could to help out.
In late 1974, Buckingham was invited to join a band called Fleetwood Mac. At the time, his and Nicks’s relationship was not working out, but Buckingham insisted that they were a package deal. They decided they were going to stay professional by putting their problems behind them and attempting to keep moving forward.
While recording “Rumours” in 1976, the couple decided to break things off. As the years went on, the band became a huge success. They sold more than 120 million records worldwide and were one of the world’s best-selling bands.
Although Nicks and Buckingham decided to move on from each other, Nicks never failed to give Buckingham scowling looks while performing on stage in front of hundreds of thousands of people. The viral performance of Silver Springs in 1997 expresses how much emotion and tension there was between those two.
