A St. Paul man is charged with stealing a car at the intersection of Seventh and Jefferson. He stole a parked car while the driver was doing a field sobriety test.
A St. Paul police officer pulled the car over at about 6pm on suspicion of the driver being under the influence. He had the driver get out and do a field sobriety test.
While they were doing the test, a man that was sitting by the bus stop got into the driver’s seat. The officer ordered the man to stop and get out of the car. The man then drove off at a very unsafe speed.
The vehicles owner used the “Find My” app to track down the car. Police went to Apple Valley where the phone was thrown out of the car.
The police officers then tracked town the AirTag that was attached to the key ring, which was at a gas station in Richfield. When police showed up, the man fled the scene once again.
They finally arrested the man in South Minneapolis. The charges say he had “signs of narcotic intoxication.” His bail is set at $20,000, and he could spend 10 years in prison.
