Latest Information
On October 2nd, 2024, reports were released stating that power lines were the cause of the wildfire. It was originally thought that windy, and dry weather were the cause of the fire, but that was not the case. Recent announcements have stated that the broken power lines initiated a fire, which spread to a wider range of areas.
Reports declare that the ruptured power lines were being re-energized. This created sparks that fell down the poles. The falling of the sparks caused the utility lines to set on fire. It was said that there could have been another fire occurring elsewhere, but the fire from the power lines was the main cause of the massive destruction that is known of at the moment.
The Aftermath
Maui has done a lot so far to recover from the natural disaster, but there is still a lot that has yet to be done. Debris has been removed, drinking water has been improved, and new housing is continuously being constructed.
