This week on Album Review, I will be reviewing one of my favorite artists, Tame Impala, most well-recognized album, “Currents”! “Currents” was released on July 17th, 2015, and the album took around 3 years to make. This album is one of my favorites from Tame Impala because of its diverse sounds and it’s endless hits.
Track #1 – Let It Happen: 10/10
“Let It Happen” being the opening track on the album was an amazing choice. From the beginning beats, to the violin, to the ending beat drop, this song is perfection.
Track #2 – Nangs: 9/10
The way “Nangs” opens with its almost hypnotic sounds is so captivating. The beginning transports me to a different world when I listen to it. I took off 1 point because the ending isn’t as exciting to me as the beginning, but the song is still amazing.
Track #3 – The Moment: 8/10
“The Moment” is a more upbeat track compared to other songs on the album. This track isn’t my favorite, but overall it is still a good song.
Track #4 – Yes I’m Changing: 10/10
“Yes I’m Changing” Is definitely in my top 3 tracks off of this album. This song in my opinion is very underrated. I never skip this song whenever it comes on, and I turn the volume up.
Track #5 – Eventually: 9/10
The track “Eventually” is one of the first songs I heard off of this album, and I immediately fell in love with it. This song is just such a feel-good song, and I still love it to this day.
Track #6 – Gossip: 8/10
Even though “Gossip” is an interlude, I feel it is a perfect addition to this album. The track helps smoothly transition from one song to the next.
Track #7 – The Less I Know the Better: 10/10
The track “The Less I Know the Better” is a an all time classic. This song is the most recognizable off their album, and their most streamed song, reaching almost 2 billion streams. Although this song is well known, the world made an awesome song popular.
Track #8 – Past Life 8/10
The track “Past Life” is the most unique track on the album. The spoken word in the song isn’t my favorite, but the back tracks are one of my favorites on the album, so my opinion on this song fluctuates every time I listen to it.
Track #9 – Disciples 7.5/10
“Disciples” is another more upbeat song on the album, but I feel it is too short. I enjoy this song a lot, but I always wish it was another minute or two longer.
Track #10 – ‘Cause I’m a Man 9/10
The track “‘Cause I’m a Man” is one I usually don’t listen to, but when I do, I always realize this is an underrated song. This song is slower, but its back beats are my favorite part.
Track #11 – Reality In Motion 7.5/10
“Reality In Motion” is another track that I don’t typically listen to, but it is not my favorite. Overall, I think it is a pretty basic song.
Track #12 – Love/Paranoia 8.5/10
The song “Love/Paranoia” is one of my favorite songs to listen to during summer. It’s back tracks are another classic for me, and this song is my favorite to listen on the boat during summer break.
Track #13 – New Person, Same Old Mistakes 9.5/10
Closing out the album, the track “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” was an awesome choice for the final song. The song brings me so much nostalgia when listening to it, and overall just good vibes.
Overall I give this album an 8.8/10. “Currents” is by far my favorite Tame Impala album, and definitely one of my favorite albums of all time.
