Homecoming is one of the biggest events that the Sartell Student Council puts on. I interviewed some people from our council, and I then asked them some general questions that people have. Including what events we put on, the behind-the-scenes work we do to prepare for homecoming, and some of the most crucial parts of getting the student body involved.
Mrs. Fredrickson, otherwise known as Freddy, has been our student council advisor for many years. She knows all the ins and outs of leadership. She helps make our council successful, by mentoring everyone in the council. Freddy helps the whole council tremendously during homecoming, and she always helps us make our events successful.
Some may wonder what are the behind the scenes work that the Sartell student council does to prepare for one of our biggest events all year, Freddy then answers, “I would say that your executive board and your council meet throughout the summer to do planning for the entire school year. We also do prep work for welcoming people back, and for homecoming, we do our leadership retreat up at Arrowood, where we do multiple sessions to build on your leadership every year. We like to also keep in mind the fact that we want to include as many kids as possible, so we spend a lot of nights, mornings, and weekends at the school doing things for your fellow colleagues here in this building, to make it a great experience.”
She explained just a few things the council does to prepare not only for homecoming but also for the school year in general. Freddy explained that the council wants to include as many kids as possible. The main goal the Sartell student council has for homecoming is for the student body to come together.
Annabelle Trombley is a Junior at Sartell High School. She is a part of the Sartell student council, and this year she worked very hard on preparing Pepfest. Pepfest is an assembly to get everyone’s energy up for homecoming. Pepfest is one of the events that the Sartell student council puts on. So what are all the events that the council puts on?
Annabelle then answers, “As a student council, during homecoming week, we plan our homecoming royalty & coronation, Pepfest, our school carnival, our homecoming dance, with our tailgate that goes on throughout the week, our council also works on planning our dress up days, and decorating our school to be festive.”
Annabelle explained all the events the council gets to put on during the whole week. Each person in the council has tasks to help make each event as successful as possible. Those tasks are separated into committee work, committees are assigned to each person in the council. Committees work very hard on their assigned event, to make it fun for the student body.
Emily Schlangen is on the executive board, of the council. She was seen heading the carnival committee this year, not to mention was very successful. She explains how crucial it is to get the student body involved, and how to get students to attend these events.
She then answers, “I would probably say that advertising and making sure the student body knows the events that we are having are actually happening.”
She explained that advertising is one of the best ways to get people to know about the events the council puts on, and make them interested. Advertising includes social media, including Instagram & TikTok, making posters, sending out emails, and making announcements.
Sartell student council works very hard to prepare for these events and puts in 100% effort so the student body can make fun memories.
