Yoga is a great way to exercise at any age. Many yoga studios offer different intensity levels of classes ranging from a basic yoga flow, to an intense hot yoga sculpt class. Even though yoga may seem like a middle aged mom’s hobby, many younger generations are taking up the activity because of the great benefits, including students from our own school.
If a yoga class doesn’t seem like something you would want to do there are many different types of classes lots of studios offer, some examples of classes include hot pilates, HIIT, and sculpt. To say the least, there is a class for everyone. Personally I prefer the hot pilates classes because of the balance of both intensity and moments of yoga flow to catch your breath.
There are both mental and physical benefits of doing hot yoga. One of the main mental benefits is that it helps reduce stress levels. This is especially beneficial for high school and college students who may be dealing with a lot of stress from school, sports, etc. Yoga provides an escape from daily stressors, during each class you’re focused on keeping up with the sets and your breathing patterns which can help clear your mind in preparation for a long day or after a stressful day.
There are lots of physical benefits of doing yoga. One is that you build your strength which you can transfer into your other sports if you are an athlete. Yoga is also super good for your health, it helps burn calories, build you a greater lung capacity, and boosts heart health.
Molly Chapell’s favorite yoga class to go to is build and burn class. She says she likes the “quick pace of the class and how accomplished you feel afterwards.” Molly also prefers going to classes in the morning because it wakes you up and gets your day started on the right foot.
Gabby Hagburg, another Sartell student, has been going to yoga classes for four months. Her favorite class is hot pilates, and she also likes to go to early morning classes because it gives her the rest of the day to do whatever she wants.
