Having a positive attitude and relationship with your students can increase class engagement and motivation. Making students feel connected and wanted within the classroom is important. In doing so, a specific situation may stick out to your students and make them feel wanted.
“Box gave me a hug when I was having a tough day, which made me feel more connected and understood.” Sophia Dulski’s favorite teacher is Ms. Box. The way that Ms. Box helped her through a tough time created a special, emotional connection between Sophie and her teacher, Ms. Box.
It is difficult when a teacher gets a representation as being a so-called, “bad teacher.” Most students assume this means that the teacher is careless in engaging their students. Along with disregarding the need to keep their students entertained through activities and long lessons.
Maddie Winters feels as if others should take Mr. Forberg’s class because “He keeps me engaged in learning because he is a very fun teacher. He is also very helpful and nice to all of his students.”
Each teacher impacts each student in different ways. The ability to provide a safe space for your students to open up is very important. Allowing yourself to empathize and having a helping hand to a student can change that student’s life forever.
Owen Vinge Stark’s favorite SHS teacher is Ms. Heckman, and here’s why. “Heckman has been there for me since I first entered high school, and she’s always been someone I can talk to and always supports me. She is my number one!”
Being an open teacher is important. The ability to look welcoming along with actually being a welcoming teacher is a fantastic ability to have. Along with every teacher can teach, but can every teacher help their students understand what they teach?
“Krippner has always been a very nice and helpful teacher. He has always started conversations with me and helped me with school if I ever need it.” This comment was made by Caden Vos because Krippner is his favorite teacher due to being welcoming and helpful.
All kids want a teacher that they can lean on and ask for help when they need it. So be that teacher!
