Are you tired of having school for five days and wish it would be four days and have three-day weekends? Well with the new law proposed your wish may come true.
In a Fox News article published on February 21, 2024. The Minnesota legislature discussed a bill that would give all Minnesota school districts to implement a four-day school week without having to get the state’s Department of Education (MDE) approval.
A Minnesota Legislature article says the twenty-nine school districts in Minnesota have more flexible learning schedules and 6 of the 24 have four-day school weeks. The school district Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa has had four day school weeks since 2011. This has saved them money and enrollment is up though test scores stayed the same. What did improve was students’ overall attendance.
The extra day of the week is used for makeup days for students and teacher training, according to a statement by Jeanna Lilleberg.
To have your school have four-day weeks, it must submit an application and The Education Department must approve it first.
