On November 30, 2022, a non-profit entity known as OpenAI unveiled its creation of ChatGPT. This new resource launched on all technology has created an uproar in the education system; however, it has aided in advancing media expression, medicine, and misinformation.
This concerns teachers and contributes to students’ success in the educational sphere. This quote below shows that with the help of ChatGPT students, ideas can come to life in an organized form.
According to high school teacher, Angie Heckman, “I think that if students have the creative ideas and all the information they need to present but just need a little bit of getting it into an organized format [it’s useful].”
Along with its effect on education, this AI tool has created an advancement in media expression, according to high school art teacher Micheal Carlson. “If you have ideas you can spit them at chat and you can get a sketch that would take an hour you can get it back in 30 seconds. So if you are truly creative it’s great.”
Lastly, the biggest fear in the release of ChatGPT stems from the possibility of misinformation. Fake images are being created to instill fear and concern in society.
Sartell High School teacher, Brad Scherer says, “Well, do we know who runs ChatGPT? It’s like the voice behind it…you’re putting way too much credibility even if it is AI somebody programmed…they can put bias into it.”
Concern over ChatGPT’s power is very apparent.
