Greetings readers, and welcome to the third episode of The Crafty Corner. As usual, I am Sam Simpson-Prijatel, and today I am going to turn back to Raster Illustration because the Inkscape experience did not go smoothly for me.
The program I will return to is Clip Studio Paint. For this illustration, I drew an Animal Crossing character named Cherry as a human. I have spoken with a paraprofessional here about copyright issues, and as long as you don’t trace the image or claim the original source as your own, then you are in the clear. Cherry’s human form was drawn from my memory. If you want to see what she looks like in the game, look up “Animal Crossing Cherry.” With the copyright problem out of the way, let’s get to the craft!
The first part that I focused on was the background. I was aiming for a pastel red along with a dark red for the shadows. The background part was boring because I do not know how to draw proper backgrounds, but I got that part out of the way. Now onto the real fun part!
The next part was focusing on the body. The part of the body that I focus on first is the neck. One of the hard parts of drawing a human for me is making the face symmetrical. Another hard part about the face is making the hair. I was going for outside bangs, but that was proven difficult because the bangs were not proportionate. I then moved on to the lower body where that part was easier. I made sure the shoulders were equal because of the proportions. I then drew lines to show the clothes’ significance. As usual, I drew a six for the ear. I was not sure about the positions Cherry should be in, so I used a pointer finger for that reason. I then drew the outline for the hair.
The third part was the face and coloring, I used the paint bucket tool to fill in the hair and clothes because I am a lazy bum. I gave Cherry hair outlines so that the hair is realistic. I then focus on the top. Cherry wears a spiderweb shirt, but as I said, this drawing was done from memory to avoid copyright issues, so that’s why the shirt looks a smidge different. The skirt was also done by using the fill tool. The socks were added to the end, but that was not a big deal. I now focus on the shoes by making outlines and using the fill tool again. I was going to focus on the eyes, but the proportions made the eye process hard, so I focused on the mouth. I now focus on the eyes by going slow with my strokes. It is easy for me to draw anime-style eyes, so I went for that look. The eyebrows were the next part. The outlines were showing, so I decided to use the charcoal brush to fill in the gaps. I even fixed Cherry’s hair and eyebrows.
The final part was giving the background decorations. I drew a heart and a skull and filled them with the bucket tool. I used a darker shade of red to draw lines for pizzazz.
And there you have it. A human interpretation of Cherry from Animal Crossing! I honestly had fun with this piece, and I am proud of myself. With that craft finished, this has been The Crafty Corner!
See you next time, and stay crafty!
