SaberCON is a building trades class that is offered at Sartell High School through Habitat for Humanity. The class runs for 3 quarters. (1,2,4) The class is fairly new and has only been around for 1 full year. Many of the students enjoy the class and the hands-on experience that the class offers.

Habitat for humanity is a non profit organization that looks to help those in need of affordable housing. In Minnesota they have helped over 2700 people. The homes are not given to the person rather, they are put on a low or no interest payment plan. Habitat workes worldwide in over 70 countries and have helped more than 45 million people.

The class does a prerequisite. Before you take the class you are required to take Constriction 1 and 2. One major part of the house is community. Habitat is mostly volunteer work. Companies and other organizations all helped in the process of building and funding the house. Just a of the major companies that helped out  were Nygaard Flooring, Heinen Drywall, Students from St.Cloud Technical and community college, and St.Cloud federal credit union. All of the groups gave us a little insight and even some tips and tricks on how to become a pro. Many of the kids enjoyed the hanging of drywall and the challenges they faced with weird shapes. The class size is smaller than most at only 20 people.

One of the hardest challenges in the class was making the cabinets. All the members of the class had none or very little experience on cabinetry. The class was assisted by westwind woodworking. SaberCON only assembled and semi sanded the cabinets.

Three students (Tucker V. Hayden K. Nathen V.) gave some insight on what the class is all about.

Tucker V, Nathen V, and Hayden K all very happy to share about working on SaberCON 1 (Jacob Lance)
