President Biden gives first state of the Union address
On Tuesday, March 1, President Biden gave his first State of the Union Address. His speech lasted for sixty-two minutes, but here are some important highlights.
Russia-Ukraine
During his State of the Union speech, President Biden made sure to address what is going on in Ukraine right now. He denounced Russian President Putin’s acts, stating, “Six days ago, Russia’s Vladimir Putin sought to shake the foundations of the free world thinking he could make it bend to his menacing ways, but he badly miscalculated.” Biden also acknowledged the importance of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in bringing peace to the situation.
Inflation
Another of Biden’s main areas of focus during his address was inflation. He is aware of the burden that it is putting on working class families and even said, “That’s why my top priority is getting prices under control.”
Stephen Breyer
The President also made the point to thank retired Supreme court Justice Stephen Breyer for all of his years serving the United States as not just a Justice, but also as a veteran of the U.S. Army. He also mentioned the Circuit Court Judge that he nominated to replace Justice Breyer, Ketanji Brown Jackson.
