Mitchell and Avalon George on their 4 year anniversary of dating.

Avalon and Mitchell George are both graduates and high school sweethearts from Sartell High School.

Avalon graduated high school with honors in 2014 and went on to attend college at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. Avalon was drawn to the U of M for the variety of programs, majors and activities.  She also says she loves the diverse group of students and being able to explore the city! Avalon completed four years of college and graduated with a major in family social science in 2017.

Avalon currently works in communications for a church in Prior Lake and lives in South Minneapolis with her high school sweetheart and husband, Mitchell George.

Mitchell George also graduated from Sartell High School with honors in 2015 and went on to find a good engineering college, which turned out to also be the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. Mitchell finished college and graduated in 2019 with a degree in aerospace engineering. Mitchell is currently employed at Northrop Grumman as an engineer in Minneapolis.

Mitchell and Avalon first met in elementary school after they both moved into houses right behind each other. Many years later they started dating in the summer of 2012. Avalon was an upcoming junior in high school, and Mitchell was going to be a sophomore.

I think being able to grow up together was really cool.  We saw the best and the worst in each other. While we navigated sports, homework, family life, and trying to figure out our futures, we always had each other to turn to. At the end of the day, he was one of my biggest supporters. We got to share our lives together at an early age, and I will always be grateful for that.”

Throughout both high school and college Avi was always there for me and supporting me. Even when everything seemed to be going against me, she was there cheering me on and helping me through whatever it was.”

The couple dated for seven years before Mitchell finally popped the question in February of 2018. A year and a half later they tied the knot August 2, 2019. Avalon is clearly in love with her new husband.  She shared, “Mitch has really helped to push me and help me grow. He looks at the world in a very different way than I do. He has exposed me to the scientific workings of the world and has pushed me to keep learning and asking questions. Mitch is adventurous and has helped me to try new food, hobbies, travels. He has opened my eyes and helped me to really experience the world around me!”

Avalon’s advice for future high school and college graduates:  “Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to know what you want to do with your life or to feel like your life path has to fit with what others are doing. Gain experiences in any way you can and don’t forget to simply enjoy the process. You don’t have to have it all figured out. I am still learning and trying to figure it out! “
