Dan Ebert, from Lake Shore, Minnesota, has had a passion for racing since he was a young boy. Dan was around racing from a young age; his father worked for Dick Trickle, a legendary race car driver. He later became a very successful snowmobile driver, with an impressive record; some highlights include a bronze medal at the 2009 ESPN Winter X Games and winning the 2010 United States Cross Country I-500 race. Dan quit snowmoiling in 2012 and took on a variety of snowmobiling-related jobs, including crew chief for a professional Snocross Arctic Cat Factory Team and a race technician. In 2017, Dan started working with FOX Shocks and spent time developing products. Dan raced Dirt Modifieds in the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) from 2021 to 2024. In 2025, he switched over to Dirt Super Late Model racing with the Lucas Oil Series, and that is where he has been since.
Dirt racing has a wide variety of car classes, or types of cars. There are two main chassis types, modified and stock. Modified chassis are fully built by hand, and the main classes made from them are Late Models and Modifieds. Stock car chassis are taken from factory vehicles and made into race cars. The main classes for stock car chassis are super stocks and stock cars. They race on a dirt circle track and go counterclockwise around the track.
A typical dirt racing event starts with hot laps, practice laps that help ensure the track is in optimal racing condition. After hot laps is the opening ceremonies, including the national anthem and prayer. Then all of the classes have their qualifying laps, where there are two cars on the track, but they are not racing each other, just the clock. They are allowed two laps to get their best time. After the qualifying laps, there are heat races, which are an additional form of qualifying for the main event. In the heat race, there are typically six to ten cars per heat race. In most races, twenty-six cars move on to the feature, which is the main event of the night. Depending on the series, they will do twenty to one hundred laps. The winner at the end of the night is sent home with a check and a trophy.
