Kay’s Kitchen has been serving breakfast and brunch since 1972.
Kay’s Kitchen is a locally owned restaurant located in St. Joseph. Primarily serving breakfast and brunch, Kay’s is widely acclaimed by its customers for its amazing service and food. So today, I brought along Sartell senior Josh Zipp (who just happens to be a long-time Kay’s Kitchen employee) with me to Kay’s Kitchen to have breakfast and document our experience.
We walk of out school in the morning and make our way towards St. Joseph. (Harry Hang)Arriving in the area, we spot some appealing wall art right behind Kay’s Kitchen. (Harry Hang)At the entrance to Kay’s, a charming sign stands in front to welcome us in. (Harry Hang)Entering the establishment, there is an ample amount amount of cozy decorations and you feel right at home. This specific mural on the wall was very eye-catching. (Harry Hang)There is also an area to show off Kay’s Kitchen merchandise, and it’s also all available for purchase. (Harry Hang)Right next to the shirts, there are also Kay’s mugs on display, along with a wooden, lazer-etched American flag with the establishment’s name and year of opening. (Harry Hang)Overall, there is an ample amount of options for seating throughout the restaurant, from coffee tables to spacious booths. (Harry Hang)As we are seated and given some neatly designed menus, I was surprised by the massive selection of items Kay’s offered. (Harry Hang)While I skimmed through the menu for something to order, my accomplice and long time worker at Kay’s Josh Zipp stated that every item offered was worth a bite. (Harry Hang)At the end, I decided an an omelet and hash browns while Josh got sausage and toast. In addition I also ordered an espresso and Josh ordered some raspberry pie for dessert. (Harry Hang)The coffee was the first to be served, and it did not disappoint. From presentation to taste, it’s everything you would ever want from your espresso. (Harry Hang)We also took note of the charming chalkboard hung up on the wall, with all their pie flavors on display. (Harry Hang)Josh’s food arrives first and he is very excited to dig in. (Harry Hang)My food came shortly after, although both arrived in a timely manner. The omelet and pancake were both delectable, but my personal highlight were the hash browns as they just had the perfect crust. (Harry Hang)These little chalkboards near our seating served as not only decoration but also showed the soup of the day and cheesecake flavors. (Harry Hang)After our food came the raspberry cream pie, and Josh kindly offered me to try it, swearing by its deliciousness. (Harry Hang)I was happy to know he was absolutely right, because the pie was in fact excellent. (Harry Hang)
Following our eats, Josh utilizes his employee privileges to give an exclusive tour to the kitchens of Kay’s. Here is what we documented.
First up, near the front of the kitchen sat the fridge that carried all the delicious pies made for the day. (Harry Hang)A plate of freshly baked cinnamon buns were spotted on the counter as well, ready to be served. (Harry Hang)Next up was the fridge of perishable items used for cooking, and to its left was the soup station. (Harry Hang)Moving into the cooking area, the stove and grill can be spotted together ready to be fired at a moment’s notice. (Harry Hang)At the very back was the oven and its other relatives and counterparts, all of which were used and cleaned daily. (Harry Hang)Going back towards the front again as the tour wraps up, we see the soda fountain, storage, and a screen. This is where everything moves through as the restaurant operates. (Harry Hang)
Overall, we are glad to say Kay’s Kitchen is everything the community says it is and more. From its local cozy atmosphere to its amazing service, Kay’s Kitchen is a worthy stop for anyone wanting a delicious breakfast.
