On Sunday March 15th, the 98th Academy Awards night better known as the Oscars was held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. 39 year old Micahel B. Jordan was nominated in the category for Best Male Actor. The other nominees in the category were
- Timothée Chalamet for “Marty Supreme,
- Ethan Hawke for “Blue Moon,”
- Wagner Moura for “The Secret Agent”
- Leonardo DiCaprio for “One Battle After Another.”
At first the odds weren’t in Jordan’s favor as the odds were aimed towards Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio for the win. A surprised Michael took the stage when Adrian Brody announced Michael B. Jordan for the win!
This was Michael B. Jordan’s first nomination and win for the Oscars. He won for his role in the vampire horror film Sinners, where he portrays two twin brothers named Smoke and Stack. The film Sinners itself had 16 Academy Award nominations.
This win alone is significant since it marks Michael B. Jordan as the 7th black performer to win an Oscar for the leading role. In his speech he highlighted the past winners Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith, and Hallee Berry.

Jordan said in his acceptance speech “I stand here because of the people that came before me,” he said. “To be amongst those giants, amongst those greats, amongst my ancestors, amongst my guides. Thank you everybody in this room and everybody at home for supporting me over my career, I feel it. I know you guys want me to do well, and I want to do that because you guys bet on me. So thank you for keeping betting on me.”

Michael B. Jordan was seen at a local In-N-Out celebrating his win with a side of fries. It’s a long standing tradition of Hollywood that started in 2005, that serves as a post win ritual for winners to enjoy their comfort food while in their formal attire. He was seen to be all smiles as he posed for photos surrounded by fans while holding his new and shiny trophy!
