All high school students should have a job

High schoolers should have a job in their teenage years to get them ready for their future career, whatever that may be. This article features an Assistant Manager at Scooters Coffee…SHS senior, Aubrey Loberg.

I didn’t think I was going to get a job at all, and one day I was like “I need a job.”So I applied to one place, and within 2 hours I heard back from my now boss. She was asking how my availability is…and when can I work. I didn’t actually expect to get the job at all and then within 3 hours I was given the job. It was really interesting because I wasn’t expecting to get the job, which was the best case scenario. Six months in, I ended up getting promoted to shift lead because I work really hard and I never stop moving when I’m at work. A month and a half after that, the current assistant manager at Scooters was going to go to Alexandria for school for the upcoming school year, so then I was chosen to be the new assistant manager for the Sartell Scooters location which came with a couple more responsibilities and a really nice pay bump! So now I’m assistant manager/also manager. I do a lot of scheduling stuff, inventory, I deal with money and bank deposits and things like that. When I first applied at Scooters I never expected to make it as far as I did. I’m so glad I got this job and I absolutely love my job. I’m so glad where I am today.”

I really enjoy my job for a couple of different reasons, my number one reason is probably all of the people there. There are a lot of really good people who work at Scooters, and I have made a lot of friends, from not only other grades at Sartell, but also other schools. I have met a lot of people I wouldn’t know if I weren’t to work at Scooters. So working there gave me the opportunity to meet a lot of new people and make a lot of new friends and make new relationships with people that aren’t necessarily in my grade. I’ve met people that are older than me and younger than me. I think it has introduced me to a lot of different people and a lot of different lifestyles. And my second reason is that I love to move around. I’m not like a desk office person type of thing, so the fact that I am able to run around and make drinks, and clean, and this and that, and the fact I never stop moving at work is really enjoyable to me, because I like that moving around. I like using energy in that way rather than just sitting at a desk.”

I’d say most definitely. Especially the fact that I have been promoted, just as a barista, a shift lead, to assistant manager/ now technically manager, is a lot. I have ‘climbed the career ladder at Scooters’ if that makes sense, and I think that will go to show to show future employers that I am hard working. I also have a good reputation at my current job and whenever I move on, having my current boss as a reference, I think is going to be really good career wise. I think a lot of people will realize and be like ‘Oh! She climbed up this ladder and went from position to position and is now in a place of leadership, and was really successful in this place of leadership.’ I think it will reflect really good for my future employers and will probably help me get jobs in the future and possibly help my develop my career in the future.”
