This song is my favorite on the album because it is very upbeat. This album features the use of horns a lot, but I believe that this song incorporates the horns the best into the song.
These are lyrics from the song that show some struggles that Bryan sings about because it shows that he doesn’t want his children to go through what he had to go through in his life.
This song is one of my favorites on the album because of the incredibly meaningful lyrics in this song.
The number 40 is mentioned many times in these lyrics and even more throughout the song. This number is intentionally chosen because of Bryan’s newly found passion for religion and in the bible Jesus fasted for 40 days in the desert which is a great example of a period of time that tests a person. This song is one of many that can be interpreted in many different ways.
I almost put this song number one because it can be interpreted in many different ways. Some may see this as a love song of completely falling head over heels for a person, but it can also be heard from a perspective of someone holding a person down and holding them back from what they really want.
These lyrics seem like a person who is completely in love but with Bryan’s history of failed relationships it is difficult to decide if this is meant to be a love song or a song of warning against falling into unhealthy relationships like he did many times.
Dry Deserts is another great song off of this album and this one is another upbeat song with a different sound then a lot of the other songs on this album. Some people have said that this song is poorly produced on the instrumental end but Bryan seems to give it his all in this track.
These lyrics seem to be a question to both the person he is singing about and himself. He is questioning if this person would go through thick and thin for him when he needs them. Very great lyrics on this track.
Santa Fe is very upbeat and features the use of horns throughout most of the song. This song has a very different sound compared to many of his other songs.
These lyrics show struggles in Bryan’s life with alcohol and events from his past that he may not be proud of. I believe that this song represents self discovery and reinvention of himself.
