Senior forward for the Sabres, Maddox Lewis, scored his 1,000th point on Thursday, February 5th, in Alexandria, and joined many legendary Sabres in the 1,000-point club.
Lewis started his varsity career for the Sabres as a sophomore in the 2023-2024 season, where he appeared in all 28 games. He played a smaller role, bringing lights out shooting off the bench, and sparking most of the Sabres’ scoring in a rough season. While playing just 24 minutes a game, Lewis managed to lead the Sabres in scoring at just under 10 PPG. This sophomore season was a big stepping stone toward a bigger role in his junior year.
Last season, Lewis was named a captain as a junior for Sartell, along with senior Jalen Schumann. Once again, Lewis did not miss a game, and his minute count went up from the prior year. Lewis played the most minutes per game among the 10 varsity players for the Sabres at 28 minutes. Lewis increased his points per game to 13.3 in the 2024-2025 season while also contributing in other offensive ways. Lewis came up 1 3-pointer short of the season record held by 1996 graduate Ned Wrightson. The single-season record is set at 74 3-pointers.

This season, Lewis has stepped into an even bigger role, often coming out for just 2 minutes per game. Lewis is averaging 22.8 PPG in the 2025-2026 season. Lewis has committed to playing basketball at the next level, post-high school, at Black Hills State University. BHSU is currently ranked 13th in the country at the Division II level.
Lewis spends his off-season playing AAU basketball with the Minnesota Comets and has done so since third grade. He continued playing with the Minnesota Comets, and this helped play a big role in his recruiting. Lewis decided on BHSU as his college of choice in September, deciding to step away from home, as BHSU is a 9-hour drive from Sartell.

Lewis looks forward to leading the Sabres to a deep playoff run and leaving a legacy as a team and not just his own. Lewis has cemented himself as one of the greatest Sartell Sabres basketball players of all time, but his legacy doesn’t stop as just a 1,000 point scorer. He currently sits on pace to break the single-season three-point makes record and the career three point makes record. He is also on pace to hold the most free throws made in a season and at the highest percentage of all time.
