Is Parker McCollum’s ‘Probably Wrong’ album worth the listen?

About Parker McCollum

Parker McCollum is a 33 year old country singer who grew quickly at a young age. Named an “Artist to Watch” by outlets such as Rolling Stone, Billboard, CMT, and others. McCollum is from east Texas and lots of his music ties to that and his ranch life. McCollum originally grew with his debut album The Limestone Kid which released in 2015 while McCollum was only 23. McCollum got married in 2022 and had his first kid a year ago in 2024.

About the album

Parker McCollum’s Probably Wrong album released on November 10th of 2017. Parker would describe this album as his most personal and emotional record he had ever released. While this album never accomplished any top 100 charts or anything it did gain him plenty of recognition and got him recognized on lots of platforms.

Memphis Rain

6.5/10

“Memphis Rain” tells a story about a man running from a broken relationship told in his perspective. It has a good beat and the background electric guitar compliments the song well.

South of the City Lights

7/10

This song tells yet another love story but more of a perfect setting one where he lives in the city but still reminisces on his life outside of the city.

Lonesome Ten Miles

7.5/10

McCollum sings about being close but yet so far and being alone for ten miles until getting to the girl he wants. The tone is good, and I think this is one of the more underrated songs on this album.

I Can't Breathe

10/10

This song is easily my favorite on the album and one of the best songs he has ever made. He sings about fighting for a relationship that his girl is not trying for. He sings repeatedly on missing her.

The Truth

6/10

Instantly more upbeat song from the get go through the drums. He sings about his relationship being over and admitting to what he did wrong.

Misunderstood

6/10

This song is obviously about him feeling misunderstood on a ride home from Austin. He sings about what people tell him and how he does not believe they are true. It has a good tone and his voice compliments their band well.

Things Are Looking Up

5/10

One of the least streamed songs on this album this tune sings about his life getting better as hunting season is starting, and he is getting a new job. Mixes in more electric guitar and light drums.

Blue Eyed Sally

8/10

The song starts with a slower folk feel. McCollum sings about going through tough times within his day but always being able to come home and lay next to his “Blue Eyed Sally.”

Learn to Fly

7.5/10

McCollum sings about the highs and lows of everyday things but eventually branches to being above all the bad and “flying” above. Learning to fly in this situation means to be single and not be in a relationship and learn to be on his own.

Hell of a Year

9/1o

One of the slowest songs on this album but also one of the best stories told. McCollum sings about his relationship with a women and how their relationship came to a close.

This album is mainly based on a love story with good story telling and slow country music. It is a great listen when you want to listen to some laid back music. McCollum does a good job with his music and has released multiple albums since this one. Any of his records are worth tuning in to as most of them represent similar kinds of music.
