Taylor Swift has been writing music since the age of 12. Music has always been something she is super passionate about. In October of 2006, she dropped her first album called Taylor Swift or as some others call Debut. That was the start of her whole career. Taylor always dreamed of being a popular singer and be a role model to people. She began to keep making music.
In November of 2008, Taylor dropped an album called Fearless. Her top songs from that album are “Love Story” and “You Belong with Me.” That year Swift had attended the Grammy Awards, little did she know that her album Fearless had won album of the year. All these years, Swift kept making music and she made her way into the music industry and has won so many more awards. Swift now has a total of 12 albums, and her new 12th album is called The Life of a Showgirl.
Track 1
The first track of the album is called “The Fate of Ophelia.” This song is the only song on the album that has a music video. The start of the song is a lower tone, and it’s not too much. But then it turns more upbeat and turns into a pop hit song. I find this song super catchy, the rhythm and the lyrics are good for the first track.
The line “All that time I sat alone in my tower, You were just honing your powers” is showing how alone she feels while people are spreading hate and going on and living their lives. That part of the song is super catchy on the way she sings it. It has a fun pop beat, and that part of the bridge is in the song a couple of times. Swift’s vocals in this song is really well sang. The lyrics are emphasizing how it felt to be alone and misunderstood. She writes about how someone can be so famous, but there are so many people putting her down and talking about her struggles with mental health. “The Fate of Ophelia” is what’s making her feel alone but someone saves her from that fate. I really like this song, her vocals in the song are so incredible and this would be a good night drive song.
Track 2
“Elizabeth Taylor” is the second track of the album. The start of the song starts and it’s more of a monotone. The song really catches your attention like Taylor is telling a story.

Elizabeth Taylor is a famous actress, and Swift is comparing herself to Elizabeth as she is an insecure individual. She writes about how she is an actress and so beautiful, but deals with her inner insecurities. Elizabeth shows a perfect life, and Swift is writing about how someone’s life can look so perfect, but in reality they are struggling a lot. I like the tone of this song and the bridge is super catchy.
Track 3
The third track “Opalite,” starts off super upbeat. First Taylor Swift talks about her bad habits of missing her lovers past. She started using the different lights and changes her perspective to not miss her past.
Taylor talked about using her own sunshine to keep going. She used the phrase “You were dancing through the lightning strikes” to show how far she’s come, and she’s so powerful that she can dance through a lightning strike. As she used her sunshine to clear it all up, she was then in the sky in the opalite. I personally like this song because it shows that even though you were sad at a time you can keep going. I also like the upbeat and happy tunes in this song.
Track 4
The fourth track “Father Figure” is a slow song, she is showing how much care that she showed in a relationship. She was saying that she’d always be there for that person and they can always look up to her.
Swift was saying that she will be the bigger person when something comes up, and that she will always protect her family no matter what. This song is showing that she can be the father figure to everyone in the family. Swift also wrote how “They don’t make loyalty like they use to” as she saw a change in the relationship she really cared for. At the end of the song, she was using past tense as her relationship has ended. She wrote about how she is still the father figure of the family even though the relationship has ended. I like the lyrics in this song, the lyrics tie together well with how the song is sang.
Track 5
The fifth track of the album is called “Eldest Daughter.” This is more of a sad song and is a slower song. The start of the song is talking about how everyone is on the internet and people are unbothered till they are not.
Swift writes as she is the eldest daughter of her family, and she writes to relate to the other eldest daughters in the world. Writing as in the eldest daughter has to be the brave one always even though they are in fear, and has to deal with everything. Always needing everything to be perfectionist, and getting everything to be in your own way. I like this song because I am the eldest daughter in my family, and it’s nice to relate to a song title.
Track 6
The sixth track of the album is called “Ruin The Friendship.” The start of the song has a fun beat to the beginning. She sings in more of an upbeat tune, but the lyrics are more sad. I like how the song is more upbeat because the lyrics are more sad so it is more fun to listen to.
This whole song is going back based on high school days. The lyric “Abigail called me with the bad news” was Abigail calling Swift about one of their old past friends that had passed way and they don’t know why. I feel like this song was not the song that everyone thought it would be.
Track 7
The seventh track on this album is called “Actually Romantic.” Taylor is writing about how all of her hate comments are actually sweet and she is trying not to care anymore.
This song reflects on a love hate letter on someone who hates you. The lyrics “Why are we always talking “about her?”” is based on Taylor being the center of attention and always being brought up. Swift thinks it’s “actually sweet” on how she is always brought up in conversations. I like the vibe of this song and how it was sang.
Track 8
The eight track of the album is called “Wi$h Li$t” starts off fast and she talks about what girls would typically want in a relationship. As in the title being “Wi$h Li$t” is a smart title because the song starts off saying “They want that yacht life under chopper blades” saying how much they want. Taylor writes about so many different categories of items / things in life that girls would want.
“Wi$h Li$t” is a song about fantasizing a “Wi$h Li$t” and just wanting someone. In the song, she phrases “Please, God, bring me a best friend who I think is hot” which I think it’s a good line to put in the song because teen girls wish to have that. This song shows a lot about how you can wish to have so much, but all of your wishes might not turn out how you would like. I like this song because I feel like there are so many different “wish” topics in the song, and it’s not all based off of one thing.
Track 9
The ninth track of the album is called “Wood.” This song is my favorite on the whole album. It is super upbeat and has a very fun rhythm. She gets into the song right away in a happy tone and the way she sings the song is super catchy. In the song she was saying she was superstitious and she didn’t want to knock on wood. The song it’s about superstitions, like a black cat, knock on wood, don’t step on a crack.
I like how she named the song “Wood” as she had to knock on wood because she didn’t want to jinx anything as she had everything perfect. This is a very superstitious song. Swift now has a strong relationship now and she does not want it to end. I like this song because the rhythm is super catchy and the bridge is sang three times in this song. The lyrics are also fun to listen to because there are so many different lyrics getting meshed together.
Track 10
The tenth track on the album is called “CANCELLED!” Swift is writing about how all people on social media and others in her life make her feel cancelled. As in the negative comments in your town, or the negative posts on social media. She is singing about how no matter how popular you are or not, someone will always do something to try to bring you down and make you feel bad.
In this song I like how it’s a lower tone showing that the words that others say to her don’t effect her at all. There’s a verse in the song that says “Did they catch you having far too much fun?” which is saying that even thought she is living her life, there will still be people out there trying to get her cancelled. I like this song, it sounds like it could be added onto her album Reputation which is one of my favorite albums. It sounds like she is getting payback in some sort of way from what someone said to her.
Track 11
Track eleven is called “Honey.” The song is starting off about getting called sweetheart by another man, that was with someone else. The beginning of the song has super catchy lyrics and makes you want to keep listening. The entire song stays the same beat the whole time, it doesn’t get too slow or too fast.
The lyrics ” ‘Cause her man looked at me wrong” was saying that at the bar some man called her sweetheart, and the other girls in the bar had looked at her wrong. But Swift says in the song “You can call me “Honey” if you want” by saying that she doesn’t mind if she gets called honey. I like the beat of this song and how the song doesn’t die down at all.
Track 12
The “Life of a Showgirl” is twelve and final song on the album. This song has to be in my top 3, I love how this song shows you what it’s like to be a showgirl and to be going out on all the tours. The song starts off slow, and it’s like a timeline on how it starts off being famous and how it’s nice at first, but as you get to be more known your reputation can get worse.
I like this part of the bridge because the way that Sabrina and Swift sound singing together. I also like how they are thanking and telling the fans on what it is like to be a showgirl.
These lyrics are Taylor and Sabrina talking about how people would treat them while they were on tour. I like how in the song on how the whole tune of the song changed. It shows how some people can ruin your confidence and make you feel worse about yourself once you accomplish something.
I love the end of the song because it brings back the Eras Tour. On October 26th, 2024, Sabrina made an appearance on The Eras Tour, New Orleans Night 2. Swift was wearing her Sunset surprise dress as a foreshadow to her new album. Swift and Carpenter sang “Is It Over Now?” by Taylor Swift, and mashed it up with “Please Please Please” and “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter. The Eras tour was a very memorable era in the world. I love how Taylor ended the song with how they ended the night of the Eras Tour when Carpenter was there.
