To start off day one of our roadtrip it was mostly traveling! We left in the morning and made it to Nebraska around dinner time. The drive was around 7 hours, but we did end up getting lost so that made it longer. We drove mostly through Iowa to get there and stopped when we needed to.
When driving through Iowa the scenery consisted of mostly farms and fields. Once we reached Nebraska, it was more hills and greenery.

After we finished eating, there was still time before it got dark so we went to a candy store down the street. We thought it would just be a large candy store, but it was not. It had many different antique items throughout it. The store was very large and everywhere you turned there was something new. You would turn a corner and all of a sudden it would be grossly hot.
We did not spend much time in the candy shop, so we went to some other stores instead. Many of the places we went were very similar to the candy shop: old, muggy and stinky with many antiques. I did not expect to see so many stores like that, but it was definitely something to experience.

Our second day in Nebraska was designated for the zoo; our main reason of the whole trip. Our day started bright and early with some hotel breakfast. We then headed to the zoo, and to our surprise it started raining. The first exhibit we explored was inside, it had mice and fish along with bugs and lizards.
After we waited inside for a bit, the rain didn’t seem to let up, so we ran to another exhibit which was also inside: the rainforest. The rainforest had real trees and rivers throughout it. There were monkeys swinging from trees and fish swimming in the rivers. The walkways were rather damp and the air was very humid. We walked through the exhibit and saw otters, bats, fish birds and more.

Throughout the rest of the time we were at the zoo it continued to rain but we didn’t let that ruin our experience. The giraffes, elephants and lions were all outside, so we stopped to see those animals when the rain wasn’t too bad. The giraffes were inside also, so we took a look there too.
As we kept on adventuring, we made it to the orangutan exhibit. The building was red and black and the rain added to the vibe of it. There was an upstairs portion of the exhibit where you could look out onto the zoo grounds, but we decided there were too many people up there, so we kept moving. We visited the gorillas and the other monkeys until we went back out into the rain for snacks.

On the last day of our roadtrip, we went to a few stores to look for Jellycat’s. There are not many stores around here that have Jellycat’s, so Aubrie and I decided to look there. My sister bought one and then we headed to a cool architectural bridge called the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, overlooking the Missouri River. After we walked up the bridge and saw the river, we walked back to the car and started our journey back home!
